About us...

Atkins Engineers was founded by Leonard C. Atkins (“Lance”), P.E., to provide the highest quality engineering services to local, national, and international clients. Mr. Atkins has over 36 years of professional engineering experience.

Lance Atkins, the principal consulting engineer of the company has worked in the engineering field since 1967 and received his bachelor of civil engineering degree from Marshall University in 1970.  The knowledge and experience he has gained over the past thirty years has helped to form the philosophy that guides our firm. Lance’s perseverance and technical skills are responsible for Atkins Engineers reputation as a unique, well-organized and successful organization capable of understanding the individual needs of each and every client.

He is a member of the Council of American Structural Engineers, American Institute of Steel Construction, Builders Association of South Florida, International Code Council, Latin Builders Association, Florida Structural Engineers Association, National Society of Professional Engineers, Florida Engineering Society, American Society of Testing Materials, Professional Engineers in Private Practice, Florida Institute of Consulting Engineers, and the American Consulting Engineers Council.

Our firm specializes in a diversity of engineering services including litigation support, threshold building inspections, structural engineering design, and project management. Atkins Engineers never loses sight of the fact that, while we practice the profession of engineering, we are providing our clients with a service. With the diversity of our client base, new challenges and cases are always presenting themselves. Each client has unique needs and Atkins Engineers is able to provide innovative engineering solutions for any client’s specific needs. Atkins Engineers is on the forefront of the ongoing changes occurring in the practice of engineering. We are able to be flexible and responsive to any situation that presents itself. Atkins Engineers pushes the edge of the envelope in finding creative and cost effective solutions to any engineering problem. The firm’s main office is located in the beautiful city of Key Largo, Florida. It is 45 minutes south of Miami and Miami International Airport (MIA). We also have a branch office located in Fernandina Beach, Florida. It is 45 minutes northwest of Jacksonville, Florida and only 30 minutes from Jacksonville International Airport (JAX). One more branch office is soon to be located in Destin, Florida, about 90 minutes from Pensacola Regional Airport (PNS).
